Since credit report is the often misunderstood and misinterpreted piece of documentation, acquiring modest background knowledge is crucial.
How to read a credit report necessitates understanding of its contents, banking jargons and other financial languages. You also need to familiarize yourself in terms of the structural gist of the credit report itself. This means that it should start from the awareness of personal information which comprised mostly of pertinent facts regarding the debtor’s name and mailing address down to the complicated ones.
Some of the things you need to know on how to read a credit report are as follows. The public record information includes all payments of your financial history like collection accounts, tax liens and bankruptcy records. The inquiries section is a list of companies and other financial institutions that asked for your credit report. This lists jargons like co-maker, authorized user of account, joint account; along with abbreviations and the ABC’s of the Miscellaneous Account Types Chart. The letter I stand for Installment Account, XPN for Experian, EFX stands for Equifax and TU for TransUnion.

1. DEED IN LIEU. Bestowing title deed authority to a creditor in steering clear of foreclosure.
2. NOT PAY AA. This is an outstanding balance that is still not settled.
3. 30-DAY DEL. Your payments are delayed for about 30 days.
